Blue Privilege

A letter from one of my "cloistered brothers.:

 Dear friends:

There's so much to say tonight about the current climate in the U.S. because of another example of the abuse of power in law enforcement all across the United States of America..... Sometimes I think I'm dreaming when I see how they are so brazen as if nobody is looking. I want to say before I go any further that I know Police Officers on both sides of the Atlantic and they are very good human beings and do their job well, just like the majority of those who are paid over here to protect and serve they go to work every day and keep our communities safe. Something has been terribly wrong for a very long time in police departments and it has to stop, if we look at the TV this last week in the U. S. one could think they were watching old footage from Belfast, or Derry in N.Ireland, or the streets of Johannesburg in S.Africa, it blew my mind that once again because of the actions of "Law Enforcement Officers," the streets looked like Iraq. And once again we see the brutal murder on TV of an unarmed black man....

Race is once again at the forefront and I get that and I understand it has to be addressed but tonight I just want to write about the abuse of power in law enforcement and how it has gotten so out of control that if change doesn't happen right now, this very night we'll see a lot more funerals. I don't really have anyone to talk with in here right now because most of the men know only too well what law enforcement has been getting away with for years...... especially minorities.

For example, if we look at the amount of different police agencies across this country they're looking more and more like little armies, we have State police, local police, Transit Police, Sheriff's departments, over 18 thousand different agencies. they have armored cars, Humvee military jeeps and a massive amount of firepower, do we need things like this? maybe we do because of the gun culture, sometimes the police are outgunned, but we don't need them to the extent they're being used...special units yes. So, what do we see, we see people being shot in the back and killed, hit with stun guns, teargassed, rubber bullets, kneeling on peoples necks while handcuffed, chocking people to death and on, and on, and on.

The people are on the move tonight, they want change, the world is watching and people aren't going away this time.....race is being talked about, words like White Privileged are being thrown around, but %70 of our citizens out on the streets protesting are white and are really upset at the murder of George Floyd. As a man who has been in prison for over two decades and witnessed some of the same things in here as we see on the streets outside I think (Blue Privilege) is what needs to be addressed, for too long those paid to Protect and Serve are out of control, they're protected by strong unions just like prison guards some of whom have their own rules even though their job is(care and custody) that's another long story.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about , the cop the world has seen kneeling on Mr. Floyd's neck for 8minutes and 46seconds until every breath was out of his body had 16 complaints filed against him in his 18yrs on the job, he had a Sargent, who had a lieutenant, who had a Captain and so on......so the question remains, who's watching the watchers? By the way, so did every other law enforcement officer who killed unarmed citizens have someone in higher rank to answer to , what happened??

This my friends is the culture, yes there is some race issues in the U.S. but there's a whole lot of Blue and Black, Blue and White, Blue and Latino abuse every single hour of every single day in this country. Hopefully we can focus on that at this difficult time for this country and all its citizens, let's ban choke holds, shooting at unarmed citizens who are running away, kneeling on citizens who are cuffed up, how about hiring cops who live in the neighborhood they protect and serve so they know the communities needs, how about more beat cops, what about spending some of the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS we spend on armored cars and weapons and warehousing men and women in prisons on the communities that most need it.

Take note all law enforcement across the States, the world is watching and Mr.Floyd's murder will not be in vain. Black or White, left or right we're all in this together, all lives matter, let's get busy!!!!

The following poem is dedicated to George Floyd, Rest in Peace George.

♥ Whose feet are they before you?
They have walked a thousand miles
Through hardship, pain, and suffering
They have weathered worldly trials.

Searching for their destination
These ways
Kilmainham
- weary feet
Travel ever onward
Ignoring sand, sun, and heat.

The way is rarely easy
The path not always clear
Still they keep on searching
Hoping home is somewhere near.

A place of final resting
Of beauty, love and peace
Where the bonds of earthly torment
Will finally gain released.

Someone waits to wash those feet
To sooth the pain away
Cleansing the sins of human life
Along with dirt and clay.

Whose feet are those before you?
They seek a heavenly goal
Perhaps the feet of Jesus
Perhaps those of your soul.
