My Holy Card

What were your first thoughts when you first saw the holy card of St. Lucy?  I'm talking about the one of her holding her eyes on a dish.  That's what she was known for?  She was tortured for being Christian, by taking her eyes out.  Her name means "light" and your eyes help you see the light.  Does knowing the story, make the picture more understandable?

Thinking about St. Lucy's holy card, I thought of other holy cards that have "attributes."  That's how you know who the saint is.  St. Peter has keys.  St. Dominic has a dog with a torch.

What should I have?  I am a saint in the making, you know.

                                                                                           I'd like this one.

But Mick, one of my cloistered brothers, did a caricature of me.  So maybe it should be this.

Driving

Father, in his homily today said that you can tell what kind of person, someone is, by the way they drive.  Oh-oh.

By the seat of my pants?

Well, today I was lost, twice.  But I never panic.  After all, I'm female.  I ask directions.  I also never panic.  I figure I'll just figure it out.  Like today...

Kim and I went to a Region I Spring Regional Meeting.  I was using my GPS, but I don't trust it.  Not since I was just starting to go over the Jamestown bridge, and the GPS told me to take a sharp right.

Anyway, I made one wrong turn and ignored the "recalculating," and just cut through an alley.

We were not so fortunate coming home.  Kim had to get to work, so I was stressed.  I got on the highway going South, when I wanted to go North.  I should have listened to the GPS.

In trying to correct, I ran into a detour and got stuck going through downtown traffic, twice.  Finally, I was back on the highway going North, but in the wrong lane, and was forced to go a route North that I didn't know.  What could I do?  I continue on and headed north all the way, until I finally recognized where I was.

Now according to Father Izzo's theory, what kind of person am I?

Kim said I bring him to prayer.

That's a good thing.  Isn't it?

The Funnies

This morning I actually read the Funnies. I haven't done that since I was a kid. I enjoyed every single one of them. I even laughed out loud (LOL)!

What surprised me was the contemporary adult content of the Funnies. And I'm not talking about vulgar language or references, either. I mean that the Funnies weren't written for kids, but for adults. The children wouldn't get it.

My favorite was Adam @ Home by Brian Basset. The first frame shows a father and son on their way to buy a fresh Christmas tree. The son comments, "I thought you told Mom we were going to get a fake tree." The other frames tell Dad's point of view: "bad idea," "tradition, great smell," "Mom doesn't mind the dropped needles and the garbage men need the work picking them up." The son says that these are all "thin arguments." The last frame shows the son saying that "Some traditions evolve." To which, Dad responds, "Like the tradition of parents buying gifts for their children?" Sonny ends with, "A real tree it is!"

That one I enjoyed the most, but there was one that proves my point that the Funnies are written for adults. It is Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau. The guys were talking about how they enjoyed reading the Sunday Funnies with their parents. So they text the kids to join them in the family room to read the Funnies. No one came.

Do you think a kid would think that was funny?

No I thought not.

Human Dignity

It just dawned on me that God created me for Himself.  In Genesis 1: 1-31, we see God made everything for mankind.  I'm in awe to reali...
