National Day of Prayer 2013

Let Us Pray
Monday’s horrific act of terrorism affected all Americans. In a few moments of diabolical carnage, a day of patriotism and athletic celebration turned into mourning and godly outrage. Our hearts cry out most especially for the families that lost their loved ones and for the many more who were maimed and wounded. They need our prayers as do the many first responders, the hospitals now caring for the injured, and the myriad of state and federal authorities seeking out those responsible. Like the prince of darkness himself, terrorism seeks to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), but we must seek refuge in the Lord God who helps those who trust in Him (Psalm 115:11).
In two weeks, on Thursday, May 2, 2013, we will be observing the 62nd National Day of Prayer.  Government leaders and people in communities all around the nation will gather to lift our needs and concerns for America before the Lord. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we as God’s people remain on our knees for our nation and fellow citizens. Needless to say, the critical challenges facing the United States and the culture at large call for faithful, persevering intercession – not only on the National Day of Prayer, but throughout the year.
This year’s theme is from Matthew 12:21, “In His name the nations will put their hope.” We encourage you to host or help coordinate a National Day of Prayer (NDP) event in your community or attend a nearby event. There are a number of events scheduled throughout the Commonwealth, including one to be held at the State House in Boston on Thursday, May 2nd  from Noon to 1:00 pm in Gardner Auditorium.

2012 National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.

Having a day designated for prayer is disputed by the Freedom from Religion people.  Just that fact alone, makes me want to promote National Day of Prayer.

So, where is everybody?

Why aren't all religious people out there promoting and praying?  Where are our preachers, church leaders, and prayer warriors.
Where is everybody?  What could possibly be their excuse?

Let Us Pray

  • Do you know that today is our country's 60th annual National Day of Prayer?  What a country!  A day set aside for people to pray for our country is wicked awesome.  Imagine, from "sea to shining sea," millions of people will unite in prayer.  This year's theme is, "A Mighty Fortress is Our God," Psalm 91:2.

  • I will say to the Lord, my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.
Are you looking for help to learn how to pray?  There is a Presidential Prayer Team, you know.  Join them in what and how to pray.  There's never a lack for intentions.  Personally, I pray for divine guidance for  our national leaders.  I pray for all the people in my country to be given the grace of religious piety.  I pray for healing for all those hurting.  All this I ask through Jesus Christ, my Lord.

National Day of Prayer

Hubby and I attended the National Day of Prayer in Pittsfield, MA. It was nice to pray with others for our country. It was a real "rush" to pray with strangers, yet be united in prayer. It was very patriotic and an exercise in Freedom to Worship and Freedom of Speech.

God bless America!

And to think that political partisans argue over this. A Day of Prayer!

Wikipedia gives a history of the Day of prayer dating back to the Continental Congress. Nowadays those that are anti-Obama say he cancelled the Day of Prayer. Many things Obama may be, but he is not politically stupid. Snopes will give you the story, which is not only did the Pres not cancel the Day of Prayer, but he is the defendant in a lawsuit challenging the government's proclamation of a Day of Prayer. Appeals are still ongoing.

Today's service was meaningful. I don't know who the priest was that represented the Catholics, but he was perfect: not too long, clear, concise, articulate, and prayerful. In fact, he concluded with the prayer in the Chaplet of Divine Mercy:

Holy God,
Holy Mighty One,
Holy Immortal One,
have mercy on us
and on the whole world.
Amen.
