We are the Children of Apostolic Witnesses

Scott Hann has an article in the Boston Pilot about the Resurrection.  It is quite compelling.  Please click on the link and read it.

To Win Them Back

Dominican Sisters of Bethany

To Win Them Back: As Ezekiel is appointed watchman over the house of Israel in today's first Reading, so Jesus in the Gospel today establishes His disciples as guardians of the new Israel of God, the Church.

Out of love, we correct people.  And we are not to do it in anger, or in any manner that would drive them further away from God.  Simply ask them to open their heart.  Give Faith a chance.

Mary.

http://www.thebostonpilot.com/article.asp?ID=177977 The next World Youth Day will focus on Mary. This touches me deeply. Currently, I'm reading and participating in Scott Hahn's on-line course for Advent which is about Mary. I've started to read Hahn's book, Hail, Holy Queen. This morning I was brought to my knees by this realization: "Whatever made the ark of the covenant holy made Mary even holier. If the first ark contained the Word of God in stone, Mary's body contained the Word of God enfleshed. If the first ark contained miraculous bread from heaven, Mary's body contained the very Bread of Life that conquers death forever. If the first ark contained the rod of the long-ago ancestral priest, Mary's body contained the divine person of the eternal priest, Jesus Christ."

Blessed to be Present

Sanctuary Precious Blood Church
Woonsocket, RI
I went to a talk by Scott Hanh.  This is the third time I've heard him speak, so when I couldn't get anyone to go with me, I wasn't going.  It's in a different state.  I didn't know the way.  I hate to drive.  I didn't want to go alone.  However, one friend agreed to go.  It's interesting that she wanted to meet me there.

It's interesting because it turned out she didn't go, but it was too late, I was there already.  Having gone to Hanh's talks before, I knew they'd be sold out, so we arranged to get there two hours before it began.

So there I was in the parking lot before everyone else, including my friend.  I telephoned her and she was just waking up!  She said she'd get dressed and come.  It turned out that rushing around and looking for a parking space and climbing all the stairs in that beautiful old church, did her in.  She finally found me just to tell me that "she'd had it."  She went home.

There I was alone.

However, Prof. Hanh's talk was exactly what I needed.  He talked about the new evangelization and the Eucharist and Confession.  The talk on Confession was excellent.  This Monday night, my RCIA candidates are giving a talk on Confession.  Thanks to Prof. Hanh I know have a history and plenty of scriptural references on why Catholics confess to a priest.  The Holy Spirit works in strange ways.

Dr. Scott Hahn

Today I traveled to New Haven, CT to attend a presentation by Dr. Scott Hahn. Dr. Hahn is known from his appearances on EWTN, and his books. He is a successful speaker on scripture and the Catholic Faith. He has produced hundreds of tapes and videos and many books. Currently he is a Profesor of Theology and Scripture at Franciscan University of Steubenville and is the founder and director of the St. Paul Center for Bible Theology.

This talk was sponsored by the St. Mary's Chapter of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, at St. Mary's Church, New Haven, CT. I was impressed. Dr. Hahn turned me around. I was not a fan until today.

You see, I see him on ETWN on Sunday mornings when I'm getting ready to go to church. I don't pay that much attention--I'm rushing around. But what I did see, I didn't like. I thought he talked too fast--almost auctioneer style. My impression was that he was milking his conversion. He's making a living out of his conversion. He's also always plugging his books. So I expected his Talk to be just a sales presentation.

I found my perceptions to be off the mark. He's genuine. He has a teaching job, so he doesn't make his living off his conversion. And his Talks stand alone. He is a prolific writer and his books will enhance his topics. He is really an itinerant preacher--no wonder the Dominicans invited him.
