The Senior Center in Winter

The Franklin Senior Center Scribblers Writing Group is making a story walk around the Senior Center Building.  Since each sign is a limited amount of space, we decided that each of us should write a poem.  It should be seasonal and topical (references to places we Seniors would know.)  Here's my first attempt.

Over the river and through the woods
the Gatra Bus does go.
This cold weather might bring snow,
perfect for December, this I know.

My fingers and toes are cold and red.
Maybe I should have stayed in bed.
My car wouldn't start.
Calling Gatra was very smart.

I must get to the Senior Center:
Bingo, Cribbage, and other adventures
beckon me out and into the cold
for activities, food and friends to behold.

Winter in New England

My friend was thinking of reasons why she likes living here.  When the temperature is zero, that's a mammoth effort.  As for me, I like all the seasons.  Summer is my favorite, but it wouldn't be if there were no winter.  Winter does have its good points:

No Cape traffic.

No mosquitoes.

No sunburn.

I look better in winter clothes.

Hot comfort food.

Fires in the fireplace.

Hockey

Christmas

Creches

Advent Wreathes

Jesse Tees

Mistletoe

Snow angels

Christmas Cacti

Talking to neighbors after snow storms

Snow Days

Hot Cider

Smell of wood burning in wood stoves

Sledding, skiing, snow boarding, ski lodges

Hot chocolate with marshmallows

Soft, warm, flannel pajamas

Snowmen/ladies/chickens

Nutcracker

First Night

Skating on the Frog Pond

Too many to list...

First Snow

It's been snowing all day.  It's the first snow.  The ground is still warm, so the snow barely carpets the grass.  Still.  It's an opportunity to reflect what's ahead.

    Winter Wishes

I want my snowman to stay
            like a statue
     standing forever still.

I want my grandchildren to clap
            woolen mittens
     and laugh happy songs.

I want the sun to shine gently
          no scorching rays
        melting children’s fun.

Not Ship-Shape

The Woman in Cabin 10 b y Ruth Ware is called a psychological thriller.  To me it means that the protagonist, Lauren, will drive you crazy...
