Still Praying for Father Jo Jo

On June 19th, everyone in the world is invited to pray a decade of the Rosary for priests.  This is to mark the closing of the Year for Priests.

(Zenit.org).- relates that a worldwide rosary relay event will unite participants around the globe to pray for priests.
The June 19 event, sponsored by Worldpriest, will begin in Brisbane, Australia, and will continue at Marian shrines through Japan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, the Levant and the Middle East, South Africa, Bosnia, Italy, Poland, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, Wales, England, Mexico, Argentina, Canada and the United States.
The faithful are invited to participate by praying a decade of the rosary for priests at a scheduled time, thereby marking the end of the Year for Priests with a 24-hour prayer relay.
Archbishop Michael Neary of Tuam, Ireland, episcopal advisor to Worldpriest, affirmed the "great potential" of this event, which "will bring many spiritual benefits to all involved."
Worldpriest planned this relay as "an opportunity for us to raise our hearts to God for all priests in the exercise of their ministry; that they will be blessed, through our prayers, with God's grace for their priesthood; that in this worldwide communion of prayer for them, they may experience our gratitude and support; and finally that they will persevere in unity with Christ and his Church and shepherd the Lord's flock to the safe pastures of his kingdom."

For the past year, I've been praying for Fr. Jojo Vattakeril MCBS, whom I spiritually adopted for the year.  Holy Spirit increase your blessings upon Fr. Jojo.  Renew and sanctify him to become a more powerful, holy and humble instrument of God's plan for the salvation of humankind.  Amen

Indulgences for Year of the Priests

For laypeople:

The Plenary Indulgence is granted to all the faithful who are truly repentant who, in church or in chapel, devoutly attend the divine Sacrifice of Mass and offer prayers to Jesus Christ the Eternal High Priest, for the priests of the Church, and any other good work which they have done on that day, so that he may sanctify them and form them in accordance with His Heart, as long as they have made expiation for their sins through sacramental confession and prayed in accordance with the Supreme Pontiff’s intentions: on the days in which the Year for Priests begins and ends, on the day of the 150th anniversary of the pious passing of St John Mary Vianne (August 4) and on the first Thursday of the month or on any other day established by the local Ordinaries for the benefit of the faithful.

It will be most appropriate, in cathedral and parish churches, for the same priests who are in charge of pastoral care to publicly direct these exercises of devotion, to celebrate Holy Mass and to hear the confession of the faithful.

The Plenary Indulgence will likewise be granted to the elderly, the sick and all those who for any legitimate reason are confined to their homes who, with a mind detached from any sin and with the intention of fulfilling as soon as possible the three usual conditions, at home or wherever their impediment detains them, provided that on the above-mentioned days they recite prayers for the sanctification of priests and confidently offer the illnesses and hardships of their lives to God through Mary Queen of Apostles.

Lastly, the Partial Indulgence is granted to all the faithful every time they devoutly recite five Our Fathers, Hail Marys and Glorias, or another expressly approved prayer, in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to obtain that priests be preserved in purity and holiness of life.

Remember every first Thursday we have the opportunity to gain a plenary indulgence. And obtain lots of the partial indulgences too!

Pray for Deceased Priests

All Souls, 1st Thursday, Year for Priests:

Pray for the souls of priests.

First, remember that you can gain indulgences on All Souls and the days following.

Second, 5 November is a first Thursday. You can gain a plenary indulgence during this year for Priests.

Third, would it not be a good idea in this Year for Priests, during the week after All Souls, for this 1st Thursday, to pray in a special way for the souls of deceased priests?

May I recommend that you bring this up with your parish priests, who might make pulpit announcements this Sunday?

If you are a blogger, would you post something on this?

Would you recommend this to your prayer groups, friends and family?

Isn't this the Year of the Priests?

Unbelievable! Todays news:
A bishop and 7 priests were robbed in Argentian.
In India a priest was murdered.
A priest drowned in Michigan.
Two priests were beaten by police & thugs in Vietnam.

It's the two priests that were beaten that really got to me. (St. John Vianney beg for mercy.) The priests live in Vietnam. One was beaten and sent to the hospital. The other priest went to visit him and was beaten by police and some thugs that were egged on by the police. They beat this priest into a coma and then threw him out of the second floor window.

Even if they hate Catholics and our priests, you don't do these things to fellow human beings. You don't pick on peaceful men of God. You don't throw people out of windows. Lord have mercy on us.

O Lord, we pray that You protect Your priests. Shield them from Satan and those who follow his evil intentions. Help Your priests who try to do Your Will, seeking only the sanctification of souls. Have Your Blessed Mother spread her mantle over all priests and through her intercession may they always do Your Will. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

Greetings!

Am sure, that you are already aware that we have began the year of the priest on the 19th of June 2009 on the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for one year. There is a wonderful opportunity to be part of this year by praying for at least one priest throughout the year. please go through the details below and do the needful. May god Bless you.

Year of Priests Special

Spiritual adoption of priests!

Priests are the greatest benefactors of humanity because it is through them that Christ continues to re-enact his unique sacrifice for the salvation of humankind. It is through them that he extends his forgiving hands and opens his heart full of Divine Mercy. Called to be the living monuments of Christ’s love in the world today, the priests spend their whole life, for God and His people. They need prayer support to live heroically their priestly commitment and mission in today's challenging world.

Spiritual adoption consists in offering up of prayers and sacrifices, during this year of priests, for a specific priest who will be assigned to you. Sign up by sending an email to adoptapriest@gmail.com if you or your family would like to adopt a priest spiritually.

The priest whom you adopt will pray for you in return. More details will be provided on request when you sign up.

The aim of this ministry is to strengthen the sanctity of priests through spiritual adoption by religious and lay people. We want to let every Catholic priest of the world know that someone has adopted him spiritually during this year of priests (June 19, 2009 to June 19, 2010) declared by Pope Benedict XVI.

Please pass this message to all your catholic contacts, the priests, religious and lay people you know and invite them to sign up at the earliest. You too can become an apostle for priests.

people you know and invite them pray for a priest. You too can become an apostle

for priests.

Worldpriest also developed a Catholic Identity Card for their wallets in the event of an emergency asking that a priest be called. It is also a reminder to pray for our priests in this Year of The Priest.

“It must be a year that is both positive and forward looking in which the Church says to her priests above all, but also to all the Faithful and to wider society by means of the mass media, that she is proud of her priests, loves them, honours them, admires them and that she recognises with gratitude their pastoral work and the witness of the their life. Truthfully priests are important not only for what they do but also for who they are.’’ —Cláudio Cardinal Hummes Prefect, Congregation for the Clergy.

"Faithfulness of Christ, faithfulness of priests" is the theme of the Year for Priests announced by Pope Benedict XVI, according to a statement from the Holy See Press Office.

Worldpriest is a not-for-profit organization which offers on-line resources to priests and promotes the World Day of Prayer for priests annually.
