Personality Quirks

This is being shared on Facebook.  Here are my friends:
A.  Clara but uses it to play with her cat who loves wax paper.
B.  Acronyms are used by government employees.
C. I confess.  It's me.  I give it to people with bad breath.
D. That's me, too.  After I pour the milk, I heat it for 30 seconds in the microwave because cold milk gives my teeth "frozen ache."  Yes I put ice cream in the microwave, too.  And my cat has to have her milk at room temperature.  What can I say, we're sensitive.
E.  That's everybody in the Senior Center.
F.  That my oldest daughter, she's a clever decorator.
G.  That might be me too.  How do I know if people watch them or not?
H. That's Jim.  His lists are on his cell phone with a calendar.
I.  I haven't seen that since 7th grade.
J. All my grandchildren.
K.  No one.
L.  Hubby.  Every place he goes, he loads up on the condiments.

Worse than Cooties

The hiking group had fun yesterday.  We came across a turtle.  I thought I'd help him get closer to the water, so I picked him up and carried him down to a brook and place him on the muddy shore.  On the way down, he peed in my hand.  Then everyone ran away from me crying out, "Ugh! turtle pee! turtle pee!"

Later on, we came across a dead bird, on our path.  For some reason, John, one of the hikers, feel moved to pick him up and place him under some leaves, away from the path.  But I didn't want him to even touch the dead bird.  Why would a bird die like that?  He looked like a young robin.  So I cried out, "Ugh! diseased bird! diseased bird!"

And everyone forgot about the turtle pee.

Susie and Blaise

Blaise sitting in the Advent Wreath
My granddaughters' have Susie the Elf on the Shelf.  Susie is a scout for Santa Claus.  She reports to Santa whether or not the girls have been naughty or nice.

Well, Santa Clause has scouts everywhere.  This Elf sitting in the Advent wreath is Blaise.  He is assigned to watch the children at Mass, at St. Blaise church.  He kept a close eye on them and he had nobody naughty to report.  I took note of that, myself.

Ten Things I Never Would Have Imagined As A Teenager

Dick and I will have been married for 42 years, this July 4th.  I find that hard to believe.  Even harder to believe is the list of things I've done in the 42 years, that were beyond the range of possibility, when I was a teen.  Ready?  Here goes:

1.  Freeze my butt off in a hockey rink, at 3:00 AM, watching a bunch of grown men swear and spit, and oh, play hockey, too.

2.  Lie (about the price of something).

3.  Hide stuff in the trunk of my car for a month or so.  (So when hubby asks if it's new, I'm not lying when I say "no").

4.  Thank God, when hubby is oblivious.

5.  Use spit to clean a child's face.

6.  Use hubby's handkerchiefs to pad my nursing bra.

7.  Wear maternity clothes when I wasn't pregnant.

8. 9. 10.  Get peed on, pooped on, vomited on, and spit up on.

Disgusting isn't it?  I bet you have a list too.

Argument over a Discussion of the Trinity

Meditating for ten minutes on the weather and listening to raindrops ping antiphonally on the tin roof has culminated in an argument.

Q.  Is it meditation or wasting time?
A.  Well, that’s a meditation in itself.
Q.  Ugh.  You’re impossible.  Aren’t you just excusing your laziness?
A.  Define Lazy.
Q.  See?  Snap out of it.  Sit up straight and get your act together, and tell me about the Trinity.
A.  Can’t.  And you know it.  Didn’t Duff and I write a formation module trying to define it?  And don’t ask me what happened to it, because I don’t know.  It was probably rejected and thrown away.  It was all straw, anyway.
Q.  What do you think about the Trinity, right this moment?
A.   Well…the first thing that comes to mind is that John Tauler said that to feel the Blessed Trinity is the sweetest experience.  And I was just wondering how does one “feel” the Trinity.
Q.  Didn’t you say, just the other day, that Mary experienced the Trinity; she felt the Father’s love, received the Holy Spirit, and conceived Jesus.
A.  I vaguely remember.  Who was I talking to?  Father Joe?  My “cloistered brothers”?  Sister Ann?  Did I write it?  Ugh…don’t bother an old lady.
Q.  It doesn’t matter who or when or how.  We’re discussing the Trinity.
A.  You’re a haunt.  Leave me alone.
Q.  No.  Go on.
A.  Wait a minute.  I was on the verge of nodding off, pleasantly listening to the music of the rain, and you come barging in making demands.  You want to talk.  About the Trinity, of all things!!!!
Q.  Yes…and your point?
A.  Okay.  I’m awake, alert, and able.  I really wanted to say pissed off, but the alliteration was calling me.
Q.  Don’t wax poetic on me.  And don’t be coarse.
A.  You don’t like my poetry?
Q.  I love your poetry and I think it’s very appropriate for the subject at hand—the Blessed Trinity.
A.  The Trinity can probably be best expressed in poetry.
Q.  For sure.
A.  We were made in the divine image, weren’t we?  Maybe Tauler was right after all?
Q.  Think it over, Faith.  Keep at it.  Why don't you put it in a poem?

Good Thing God is All Merciful

The Day of Gifts

BY PAUL CLAUDEL
TRANSLATED FROM THE FRENCH BY JONATHAN MONROE GELTNERRead the translator's notes
It’s not true that Your saints have won everything: they left me with sins enough.
Someday I’ll lie on my deathbed, Lord, ill-shaven and yellow as a lifelong drunk.
And I’ll make a general examination of myself, looking back over all my days,
And I’ll see that I’m rich after all, ripe and rich with evil in its unnumbered paths and ways.
I haven’t lost one single chance, Lord, to make matter for You to pardon.
Now I hearten myself with vice, having long ago sloughed off virtue’s burden.
Each day has its own kind of crime, plain to see, and I count them like some paranoid miser.

If what you need, Lord, are virgins, if what you need are brave men beneath your standard;
If there are people for whom to be Christian words alone would not suffice,
But who know rather that only in stirring themselves to chase after You is there any life,
Well then there’s Dominic and Francis, Saint Lawrence and Saint Cecilia and plenty more!
But if by chance You should have need of a lazy and imbecilic bore,
If a prideful coward could prove useful to You, or perhaps a soiled ingrate,
Or the sort of man whose hard heart shows up in a hard face—
Well, anyway, You didn't come to save the just but that other type that abounds,
And if, miraculously, You run out of them elsewhere . . . Lord, I’m still around.

And what kind of a man is so crude that he hasn't held a little something back from You,
Hasn't in his free time fashioned something special for You,
Hoping that one day the idea will come to You to ask it of him,
And maybe this little that he’s made himself, kept back until then, though horrid and tortuous, will please Your whim.
It would be something that he’d put his whole heart into, something useless and malformed.
Just like that my little daughter once, on my birthday, teetered forward with encumbered arms
And offered me, her heart at once full of timidity and pride,
A magnificent little duck she had made with her own two hands, a pincushion, made of red wool and gold thread.

Br. Tonto Questions Cappa's Lenten Sacrifice

This is a Brother Tonto and Cappa Cartoon.  It looks like Cappa has given up "mice" for Lent.  There is a story about St. Martin de Porres regarding this same problem.  When the priory was overrun with mice, the prior turned to Martin for help.  The prior knew that Martin loved all animals, including rodents, and when the prior told Martin to find a way to rid the priory of the vermin, or he, the prior was going to kill them all.

It is said that Martin called all the mice together, and explained the problem.  Martin told the mice to stay out of the priory, and especially to stay out of sight of the prior.  In return, Martin would feed them daily--in the barn.  It worked like a miracle.

Human Dignity
