Blessed Paul Peter Gojdic

Previously, I used a quote, Bishop Gojdic used:"For me, it is not important if I die in the Bishop's Palace or in prison; what matters is entering into Paradise".

This quote prompted me to look up who exactly was Bishop Gojdic.  He lived in tremulous times.  World II and the Soviet take over of his country.  He was born in Presov, Slovakia, in 1888, the son of an Slovakian priest. Peter was ordained a priest in 1911.  He wasn't attracted to administrative work and would have rather become a monk.  However, God calls whom He wills.  Bl. Gojdic rose in the hierarchical ranks to become Bishop of Presov.

During WWII, he defended the Jews and other disenfranchised.  In fact, after his death, he was awarded the honor of being "One of the Righteous Among the Nations", at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in 2007.

In 1950, the Bishop was arrested by the Communist and thrown into prison.  He remained there until he died.
