Should some politicians be excommunicated?: Q. The Church's Code of Canon Law (No. 1398) says that a person who procures an abortion incurs an excommunication. Do Catholic politicians who vote to provide abortions incur this same penalty?
This article in the Pilot describes why some bishops deny Communion to politicians. I understand both sides but to me denying Communion is a publicity stunt. The bishop and the politician need to talk privately and not broadcast the results of the discussion, certainly not the spiritual status of the politician.
