Day Two Consecration to Mary for the 21st Century/A Lenten Journey

Day Two

Thursday after Ash Wednesday

Ejaculatory prayer to pray all day, "Come Holy Spirit."

First Meditation

Meditate upon "Lord, I am sorry for offending You and I promise to try to do better."

Second Meditation

Every time you pass a Catholic Church, bless yourself to recognize the presence of Jesus in the church's tabernacle.

Third Meditation

Pray, "Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever," on every bead on yuor rosary that separates the decades.  That is 5 times.

End your day with "Come Holy Spirit," and the examen.

End your day with an examination of conscience--even in bed.
Come Holy Spirit
What good did I do today?
Where did I fail?
How can I do better?

Day One Consecration to Mary for the 21st Century/A Lenten Journey

Day One
Ash Wednesday

Prayers for Ash Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday after Ash Wednesday

All day, when you think of it, pray the ejaculatory prayer, "Come Holy Spirit."  End the day with an examination of conscience--even while in bed.

First Meditation

You have to get yourself a Rosary.  Put it in your pocket or in your purse.  The point is that you either feel it every time you put your hand in your pocket, or you see it every time you open your purse.  When you do see or feel your Rosary, think of Mary and pray, "Mary, pray for me now and at the hour of my death."

Second Meditation

There will be times when you have to remove your Rosary (to change pockets or when emptying your purse to search for something).  Every time you do this, hold your Rosary in your hand and kiss it, before you replace it.  Never mind who sees you.  You are giving witness to your faith; be proud of it.  Also pray, "Mary, pray for me now and at the hour of my death."

Third Meditation

Meditate upon Father Aniello Salicone's prayer, "Thank you Jesus, for loving me."

End your day with an examination of conscience--even in bed.
Come Holy Spirit
What good did I do today?
Where did I fail?
How can I do better?

Tips for the Consecration to Mary for the 21st Century/A Lenten Journey

Tips for Consecration to Mary for the 21st Century

      A Lenten Journey

Every thing is brief.  So brief, that you can grasp the intent of the assignment while waiting for light to change at a traffic light--not that, this is the preferred venue.  But you get the idea.

Make the commitment to fulfill each day's assignments, and at the end of Lent, you'll have a different relationship with Mary and will be closer to Jesus.

Lent is 40 days.  You will not count Sundays.  Jesus was resurrected on Sunday, so we will celebrate Sunday, not do penance.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday.  Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence.  All Fridays are days of abstinence.
Fasting  =  one large meal and 2 small ones no grazing
 Abstinence  = no meat

Final note: Don't expect every day to be a profitable day of meditation.

Consecration to Mary for the 21st Century/A Lenten Journey

Consecration to Mary for the 21st Century

Lenten Journey--40 days
1.  Introduction: Spirit of the world, knowing oneself, knowing Mary, knowing Jesus, and final preparation.
2.  Recommended prayers
3.  Daily meditations
4.  Act of Consecration

Preface

It is my hope that my Lenten Consecration to Mary will be of assistance to somebody!  My apologies to Saint Louis de Monfort's True Devotion Consecration to Mary by Fr. Helmuts Libietis.  I tried, and in fact, did complete all of the saint's five week (55 days) of prayers, daily meditations and spiritual guidance.  I was faithful to the point of stupidity.  I pushed myself to read with eyes glazed over in ennui,  I prayed something--with lips, if not my mind.  But as de Montfort said himself:

Do not fear distractions.  They often make prayer more powerful and meritorious
when we are faithful in driving them away and thus showing our desire to remain
        in the presence of God.

Hence, I was inspired to modernize St. Louis de Montfort's True Devotion Consecration to Mary.  Today's culture with its demanding pace of living, just is not conducive to de Montfort's consecration.  I, myself, would not have been able to undertake this consecration endavor were it not for the fact that I am retired.  I do not have a job.  Consequently, I can arrange my time around de Montfort's daily schedule requirements.

Even more than the daily prayer demands, the outdated language and medieval sources of meditation are beyond today's imagination, let alone any
acceptable common perceptions of holiness.  De Montfort's book sorely needs updating.  This is why I am attempting to adapt his ideas to fit into today's working person's schedule.  I hope like like St. Louis de Montfort, that your journey through the consecration will bring you closer to Mary.  I know Mary will straighten out my inadequacies.  The end result will lead you to Jesus.  You and Mary, together, will see Jesus throuogh the eyes of love.

This is my intention for composing this Lenten Consecration.  This is my prayer through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Sunday Snippets--A Catholic Carnival

Outside a blizzard is blasting.  I looked out the window and didn't see anything but whiteness.  I pray the electricity stays on.  As long as I have my computer, I can keep up with my blogger friends at This That And The Other Thing.  That's R'Ann's blog.  We link up there to catch up on what's happened during the past week.  Click here to see what I'm talking about.  My week went thus:

Monday  --  Blizzard Blues

Tuesday  --  Short Story

Wednesday  --  News v. Entertainment (My take on Brian William's predicament.)

Thursday  --  St. Expeditus

Friday  --  Prayer for my Godson.
                 Shameless begging.

Saturday  --  Valentine cartoon.

Starting tomorrow, I'll introduce my Lenten Consecration to Mary.  It will bring you closer to Mary and therefore closer to Jesus.  I promise you, unlike St. Louis de Montfort's Consecration, mine is doable.  Do it for Lent.  Do it for Jesus.  Do it for Mary.  Do it for yourself.

Everybody Please Give A Little

Will everybody please give a little?  I mean just that, $ 5 or $ 10.  If everybody could do that then the publishing of These Stone Walls for Father Gordon MacRae will continue.  The Consecration to the Immaculata is included also.  Go to Fund me, and find it in your heart to contribute.  Not much, just a litle.

AI = Seeds

Can you explain how a seed germinates?  I don't mean adding water and sunlight.  I mean what is inside the seed that makes it start to ...
