It's been a while since I've posted because I've been crazy busy. I bring the grans to and from camp, I lead my walking group, try to keep up my prison ministry, and my own personal faith development. Then, something happened that I had to just sit down and post my thoughts and feelings. I'm talking about the flood in Texas.
Particular sad are the campers that were caught so unaware. These are little girls away at a Christian camp. The flood happened while they were asleep. The water rose too quickly and high enough to prevent their door from being opened. Their windows were high up and squat rectangles that I know I couldn't fit through, never mind children. How would they get up there?
Thankfully some little girls were rescued. Very poignant was a news clip where some girls were sitting in a bus and
singing glory and praise songs to God, in thanksgiving for being rescued.

Afterwards, one the girls told a reporter that she gives thanks to God for saving her. The reported asked, "Who sent the flood?"
I don't know what the girl responded, but the reporter was being disingenuous in asking her that question. Theologians discuss this question, all the time. "Why do bad things happen?" If anyone asks me that question, I'm ready to answer,
You need to read Genesis. God gave mankind dominion over the earth. AI gives the scripture reference.
Genesis 1:26-28 states that God created man in His image and likeness, giving them authority over the fish, birds, and all other living creatures. This dominion is understood as a responsibility to care for and manage creation, not simply to dominate it.
That includes climate control, flood control, preparation for natural disasters, and especially to take precautions for inclement weather. The question is asked to the wrong person. Mankind has the responsibility to care for each other. God accuses us.
