A Dirge

 My book club, Argonauta, has banned Irish books because they're always about suffering.  This book I just read proves them correct.  The Gathering by Anne Enright is about alcoholism, child molestation and beatings.  The protagonist dies and the Wake is the Gathering.

Liam, the deceased, committed suicide.  His sister narrates.  All the relatives come to the Wake and are described ad nauseum.
