The Rosary Beads

My Hail Mary's stopped
to watch the cross sway,
annoyed with myself
for the distraction
because my rhythm broke.

Slowly, slowly, slowly
the silver cross dangled
back and forth, back and forth,
my eyes flicked down
and then up, but again down

to the hour of our death.
Amen.

Amen.
